WEALTH VERSUS HEALTH

Description

This updated edition is published less than two years into Donald Trump’s second term. In this time he has so far pulled the US out of the World Health Organisation and United Nations bodies, slashed foreign aid, reneged on agreements, weakened alliances, imposed arbitrary tariffs that have increased the cost of living, and chosen to launch an unpopular forever war against Iran.

His One Big Beautiful Bill cuts $1 trillion from Medicaid and ends tax credits for health insurance, with worse to come after the mid-term elections. The same Bill cuts taxes for the super-rich, while lavishing an extra $75 billion on masked thugs from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Anti-vax weirdo Robert F Kennedy, unleashed by Trump as Health Secretary, has fired thousands of staff, replaced whole expert committees with anti-vax zealots, axed promising research programmes and reinforced baseless fears over vaccinations – as measles and other preventable diseases begin to spread once more.

Trump has set out to crush those fighting for diversity, equality and inclusion, and usher in a new, brutal age of discrimination, corruption, repression and exploitation.

But not everything has gone Trump’s way. There has been resistance, through the courts, through Congress, and through fired experts and staff organising together to safeguard science and share vital data. Trump’s own popularity has slumped, with Republican candidates now begging him not to visit or lend them his support.

As the mid-terms approach, this book seeks to assess the scale of the damage Trump has inflicted and highlight the extent of the ongoing fightback.
