Description
Three middle aged ingenues enter the art world in search of art, three young East End artists set out to change it through their bold new movement of metaconceptualism, and an established Mayfair Gallery sets out to recover lost ground through a blockbuster exhibition. As all three vectors collide in the deceptively innocuous world of art the most unforeseen consequences arise as the world is brought to the brink of World War III and art is turned on its head. We follow the confused and chaotic paths of our characters as they bumble their way through the slippery parallel universe known as the Art World – where novelty trumps all, where relativity exceeds Einstein’s wildest dreams and where anything can be art and art anything.
Alex Murray is a retired architect who was born in Malta, brought up in Durban, South Africa and who completed his studies at the Architectural Association in Bedford Square, London. After a lifetime of weekend visits to galleries in between practising as a chartered architect and raising a family in London he has finally decided to settle his recurring question ‘Am I a philistine or is the artist a charlatan?’ through the medium of that comic novel he’s always wanted to write.
