A Grandfather’s Story
Arthur Worrell was born in 1904 and aged 35 at the beginning of 1940, having been sacked from his printer’s job at the outbreak of the war, joined up. In the shambles that was Britain’s military, he was shipped to France in April 1940 as France was falling and was more or less immediately captured. He spent the next 5+ years as a POW – and was part of the terrible march starting in Poland, away from the advancing Russians during the winter of 1944-45, eventually being liberated in April 1945. This book reveals his life and times and the terrible events in that little known appalling winter in a graphic account that is very personal.
