Mari Seaword is a UK based Japanese translator. Her translations include The Ability to Write, the Ability to Think: Tsunesaburo Makiguchi’s Composition Teaching Method by Takao Ito, which is published in Makiguchi Tsunesaburo in the Context of Language, Identity and Education (Routledge, 2017) and a Japanese short story from 1917, At Cape Kinosaki by Naoya Shiga, for which she received a commendation from the John Dryden Translation Competition for 2010 – 2011.

She obtained her MA in English Literature from Soka University in Japan and gained her second MA in Translation from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. She has a strong interest in literature, especially George Eliot and her contemporaries. Currently she is working as an in-house translator for a Japanese organisation in Scotland. She also voluntarily supports a UN non-governmental organisation who promotes peace, culture and education, based on the humanistic principles of Buddhism.
