Diana Bruce graduated from the University of Lancaster in 1971 with an English degree and spent the following year in America where she worked as an admin assistant in the University of Colorado admissions office. On return to the UK she took up her deferred PGCE place at the University of London, Goldsmiths’ College and began a long and rewarding career teaching in the first purpose-built comprehensive school in Inner London.

During two maternity leaves, she juggled part-time teaching, part-time tutoring on the Goldmiths’ PGCE English course and part-time working with newly qualified probationary teachers on a local authority Induction programme. In subsequent years, first as Head of English and Media and later as Assistant Head on the Senior Leadership team, her work focused on cross-curricular teaching and learning and coaching staff.

In 2009, following retirement from full time work, she was invited to join a National Strategy team at the (then) DCSF working on a project across primary and secondary schools and also joined a consultancy supporting teachers in a range of secondary schools across the south-east. She is currently a governor at a London primary school where she has happily supported pupils and staff in the teaching of English, just for the love of it!
