Catherine Brown BA (Cantab), MSc (Lond), MA (Lond), PhD (Cantab) studied English at Cambridge, then politics and comparative literature in London, before returning to Cambridge for her PhD as an English-Russian comparatist. She has taught post 1800 literature at the universities of Cambridge, Greenwich, and Oxford, and in September 2012 joined New College of the Humanities in London as Head of English and Senior Lecturer in English literature.
Catherine is the author of the monograph The Art of Comparison: How Novels and Critics Compare (Legenda, 2011), and articles on George Eliot, D.H. Lawrence, Henry James, and Lev Tolstoy – and co-editor of The Reception of George Eliot in Europe (Bloomsbury, 2015).
She is co-editor of the forthcoming The Edinburgh Companion to DH Lawrence and the Arts (forthcoming EUP 2020), and is Vice-President of the DH Lawrence Society of the UK. She tweets on matters sometimes related to D.H. Lawrence as: @NeoLawrencian. Her website is www.catherinebrown.org
